Science & Access

In collaboration with MedUni Vienna & Klinik Landstraße.

Two clinical studies are currently assessing the accuracy of the app, and a third is in planning (as of July 2026): with Dr. Martin Tauschmann, PhD at MedUni Vienna (children) and with Dr. Katharina Vafiadis-Maruszczak, MSc, PhD at Klinik Landstraße (adults). Carbetic is, however, not a medical device. It is a tool for estimating carbohydrate content.

Patients who cannot afford the subscription (€4.99/month) receive lifetime free access on your recommendation. It is important to me that everyone living with diabetes has access to Carbetic, regardless of financial situation.

How Carbetic works

Three ways to analyse a meal.

Carbetic captures meals in three ways: via 3D scan, via recipe, or in voice mode. The 3D scan estimates dimensions, derives volume, density and the weight of each ingredient, and ultimately calculates the carbohydrates. Recipes can be photographed (handwritten or printed) or loaded from any online source via a link. For on-the-go use, just dictate: “300g of apple, 200ml of milk and a cappuccino”. That’s enough.

For every meal, Carbetic shows carbohydrates, absorption time, calories, fat, protein, FPU (fat-protein units) and fibre.

The 3D scan is not 100% exact, but for many people it offers a noticeably more accurate alternative than pure guessing. Recipe analysis and voice mode are as accurate as if you calculated the values yourself.
