From above45 degreesSide, 90 degrees

Three photos: from above, at a 45-degree angle and from the side at 90 degrees. Those three perspectives let Carbetic estimate the dimensions of your meal, and from them its volume, weight and carbs. That is considerably more accurate than alternatives that work from a single photo.

The result is not perfect, but usually more accurate than plain guessing.4

Carbetic is recommended by European diabetes self-help organisations — among them the Österreichische Diabetikervereinigung, Austria’s national patient association, the Verein Aktive Diabetiker Austria, Dia Engel e.V. together with its Dia Kompass directory, and Diabetes Selbsthilfe Vorarlberg. Carbetic has also been featured on the Zuckerjunkies podcast, by Diapoint in Dubai and in the business magazine brutkasten. At the Medical University of Vienna and Klinik Landstraße, a Vienna city hospital, two clinical studies are currently examining the app’s accuracy, and a third is in planning. The associations named are patient and self-help organisations, not regulatory or certification bodies. Carbetic is not a medical device and must not be used as one.

Questions? Answers.

Carbetic is an app for counting carbs. It estimates the carbohydrates in a meal via 3D scan, recipe analysis or voice input, and also shows absorption time, FPU (fat-protein units), calories, fat, protein and fibre.

The scan measures the meal spatially from three perspectives and derives the volume and weight of the ingredients. It is not 100 percent exact, but for many it is considerably more accurate than plain guessing. LiDAR detection is available on select devices and can further improve accuracy.

You can try Carbetic for free. After that, the subscription is $4.99 a month (€4.99 in the eurozone). Anyone who cannot afford it receives lifetime free access with a note from their doctor. Verified healthcare professionals use Carbetic for free.
