Carbetic database

The backbone of the Carbetic 3D scan.

The Carbetic database is the engine that combines, aggregates and synthesises the food data behind the nutrition values in the app.

For each item in a meal, it draws on USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts and, when relevant, independent websites.

Sources

  1. USDA FoodData Central

Nutrition data for generic foods, such as apples, rice or bread.

    fdc.nal.usda.gov
  2. Open Food Facts

Nutrition labels of packaged products, matched by brand and product name.

    world.openfoodfacts.org
  3. Independent websites

The values producers and restaurants publish on their own websites. Carbetic uses them when relevant, for some branded products and restaurant dishes that Open Food Facts does not cover.
