Scams and money red flags

Most people in the network are exactly who they say they are. A few simple rules protect you from the rest.

In short

The one rule

Never pay or accept money before you have met in person and agreed on babysitting.

Red flags

Carbetic never asks for money in the chat

Anyone who asks you for money in the chat in the name of Carbetic is not us.

Contact details stay out of the chat

Phone numbers, email addresses and messenger links can't be sent in the chat. This keeps the conversation where reporting and blocking protect you. See Why can't I send my phone number?

If you type something that looks like a bank account or a request for payment, the app shows you a short safety tip. This happens only on your device, and the message is not blocked.

If you think it is a scam

  1. Stop replying, and do not pay anything.
  2. Report it with the reason “Scam, fraud or asking for money”. Leave “Also block” on.
  3. If you have already paid or shared bank details, contact your bank at once and go to the police.

Paying for babysitting

Pay is agreed between the family and the sitter, after you have met. Write down what you agreed. In most countries the family is the employer.

The Safety Center has general information, for example on the Austrian Dienstleistungsscheck and the German Minijob in a private household.
