T1D Babysitting

Network Terms

Version 2.0 · Last updated 22 October 2026 · Deutsch

These terms apply to the T1D Babysitting network in the Carbetic app and in the app "T1D Babysitting by Carbetic". They exist in English and German.

In short

This summary helps you read the terms. The full text below is what applies.

1. Who we are and how to reach us

1.1 The network is run by Diego Szekely, a sole trader trading as "Carbetic", Rudolfgasse 1, 2380 Perchtoldsdorf, Austria ("Carbetic", "we", "us"). Our full imprint is at carbetic.app/impressum and in the app under Profile, Legal.

1.2 Contact point for members and everyone else (Digital Services Act, Art. 12): use "Contact us" in the Safety Center in either app, or email safety@carbetic.app. You can write to us in German or English. A person reads and answers every message. We do not rely only on automated answers.

1.3 Contact point for authorities (Digital Services Act, Art. 11): legal@carbetic.app, in German or English.

1.4 You can report content or members to us at any time (section 12). People who are not members can report by email to safety@carbetic.app.

2. What these terms cover and how you accept them

2.1 These terms apply to the T1D Babysitting network ("the network"). The network is one service with one shared account, whether you use it:

2.2 The following documents belong to these terms:

If these network terms and the Carbetic Terms of Use say different things about the network, these network terms apply.

2.3 You can look around the network without an account and without accepting these terms. The Carbetic Terms of Use apply to that use, and the rules in section 10 apply to everyone.

2.4 When you create a profile, as a family or as a sitter, you must accept these terms and the Community Guidelines actively by ticking "I agree". Without this, no profile is saved. We record which version you accepted and when. When a new version applies, the app asks you to accept it again (section 18.1).

2.5 These terms are written in plain language on purpose, because members can be as young as 16. If something is unclear, ask us (section 1.2).

3. What the network is, and what it is not

3.1 What it is. The network is a directory with a map, a list and profiles, plus a private chat. It helps families of children with T1D and people with T1D experience find each other and talk.

3.2 What Carbetic does not do. Carbetic:

3.3 What Carbetic checks. We check the identity of every member who sends messages or writes reviews (section 5). We do not check backgrounds, criminal records, qualifications, references, health, experience with T1D, or anything else a member writes. What "ID verified" means explains this in detail.

3.4 Agreements between members. If a family and a sitter agree on babysitting, they make that agreement directly with each other, outside Carbetic. No contract for babysitting is concluded with Carbetic or through Carbetic, and the network has no booking or payment function. Times, pay, tasks, insurance, tax and social security are up to them. In most countries the family is the employer and has the duties of an employer. The Safety Center gives general information about this, for example on the Austrian Dienstleistungsscheck. It is not legal or tax advice.

3.5 At the family's home. The network is meant for babysitting at the family's home. Regular paid care of children in the sitter's own home may need a permit in some countries or regions (in Austria, for example, under the laws of the federal states on day parents). Members must check and follow those rules themselves.

4. Who can take part

Nobody under 16 can take part, in either app. The app "T1D Babysitting by Carbetic" is only for people 16 and older. In the Carbetic app, people under 16 can use the carb counter with a parent's permission (Terms of Use, section 4.1), but not the network.

4.1 Private individuals only. Only natural persons acting for themselves can take part. Agencies, companies, associations and people who act for them cannot.

4.2 Families. You must be at least 18 years old and a parent or legal guardian of the children you describe in your family profile.

4.3 Sitters. You must be at least 16 years old and have experience with diabetes. In your profile you answer the question "What experience do you have with diabetes?" and choose at least one of these:

This is your own statement. Carbetic does not check it. Do not name other people in your answer.

4.4 Sitters aged 16 and 17. If you are 16 or 17:

The rules in this section end automatically in the month after you turn 18. If our identity check provider cannot yet verify people under 18, sitters must be 18 or older until it can. The app tells you if this is the case. Until you turn 18, you and the families you babysit for must follow the laws that protect young people, for example on working hours and night rest.

4.5 Your parent's or guardian's agreement. If you are 16 or 17, the app asks you to tick one box: "My parent or guardian agrees that I babysit". Talk to your parent or legal guardian before you tick it. You can publish your sitter profile only after ticking it, and we record that you ticked it and when. Ticking it without their agreement breaks these terms. If a parent or legal guardian tells us that they do not agree, we take your sitter profile offline and close your open conversations. This is not a penalty: it adds no strike and no ban. Once you have sorted it out with them, you can tick the box again and publish your profile again. Parents and guardians can contact us at safety@carbetic.app, also without an account.

4.6 Where you live. The network is available worldwide, except in Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria, where our cloud provider cannot operate. Your profile address must be the place where you live.

4.7 One person, one account. You may have only one network account. One account can hold one family profile and one sitter profile.

4.8 Who cannot take part. You may not take part if:

5. Your account, sign-in and identity check

5.1 Browsing. You can open the app and look around without an account, but to see sitters and families near you, you publish a profile (section 6.5). No identity check is needed for that, only to send messages.

5.2 Account. To publish a profile, chat or review, you create an account with Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google or your email address (we send you a sign-in link). The account is linked to the Carbetic app ID you already have on your device. It is the same account in both apps. Keep your Apple or Google login and your email account safe and tell us at once if you think someone else uses your account.

5.3 Identity check. You can publish a profile without an identity check. To send messages, both to start a conversation and to reply, families and sitters must pass it. Without it you can still read messages sent to you. Reviews can only be written after both people have sent messages, so everyone who writes a review has passed it too. The check is done by our service provider Didit inside the app. You photograph an identity document and take a live selfie, and the selfie is compared with the photo on the document. Because this compares your face, we ask for your explicit consent first. The privacy policy explains what is processed and what we keep.

5.4 Free of charge. The identity check is free for everyone. You can try up to 3 times in 30 days.

5.5 When a check fails. A check can fail, for example if the photo is unreadable, the document is expired, you are under 16 (sitters) or under 18 (families), the document is already used by another Carbetic account, or the identity belongs to a person who was removed from the network. If the check fails because you are too young, already have an account or were removed from the network, all profiles of your account stay offline until a check verifies you. This is an automated decision. The app tells you the main reason. You can ask for a person to review it by writing to safety@carbetic.app or using "Ask for a human review".

5.6 Your name and age. When you create a profile, you give your first and last name and your birth month and year, and they must be true. We use the birth month and year to check your age (section 4). Your last name is stored privately and never shown in full. Until your identity check, your profile shows your first name and the first letter of your last name, as you typed them, without "ID verified". The identity check compares your birth month and year with your document. After it, your name is shown in the same form, taken from your identity document, and your age comes from the document. You can choose any one of your verified first names. You cannot change the name yourself. Adult sitters can choose whether to show their age. The age of sitters aged 16 or 17 is always shown. Family profiles show no age.

5.7 Once is enough. You pass the identity check once. We do not ask you to repeat it later, for example when your document expires.

6. Profiles

6.1 Your responsibility. You are responsible for your profile. It must be true, up to date and about you. Fields such as device familiarity are marked "Self-declared" because Carbetic does not check them.

6.2 Health information.

6.3 Automated checks before publishing. Before a profile, a photo or a change goes live, it is checked automatically (section 13.2). If it passes, it is published at once. If it does not pass, we tell you what to change. If you change a live profile, the earlier version stays visible until the new one passes. You can ask a person to review any automated refusal.

6.4 Prices. Any hourly rate, overnight rate or budget you show is your own decision. Hourly rates and hourly budgets can be at most €30 (or a similar round amount in your currency). The rates the app suggests are general guidance based on typical local babysitting rates, not a price we set. You can enter any other amount up to the maximum. The app links to official information on minimum pay for household work where we have a verified source.

6.5 Visibility. Sitter and family profiles and their photos can be seen by everyone who has published a profile in T1D Babysitting. People without a published profile do not see them (section 6.8). You can pause each of your profiles at any time. A paused profile does not appear in search, and existing conversations continue.

6.6 Your account stays until you delete it. We do not delete your network account because you have not used it for a while. You can delete it at any time in the app.

6.7 Permission to use your content. You keep all rights to what you upload. You allow us, free of charge and for as long as your content is on the network, to store it, show it to other members as described in these terms, adapt its format (for example resize photos) and check it as described in section 13. We do not use network content for advertising or to train AI models. This permission ends when you delete the content. It continues only for text messages you already sent (section 8.8) and for reviews you wrote (section 11).

6.8 Photos. Each profile can have up to 6 photos. Photo 1 is your profile photo, and the others are optional. Families can add family photos, and these may show children, but only children whose photos you are allowed to share, for example your own. Photos are visible to everyone who can see the profile (section 6.5). Only add photos you are allowed to share. We remove location and other hidden data from every photo, and the app has no button to download, save or share another member's photos.

6.9 Your profile and data protection. For the profiles you publish, you and Carbetic are jointly responsible under data protection law (Art. 26 GDPR). In essence, we have agreed the following:

7. Location

7.1 You enter your address so we can place your profile in the right area. We check the address and turn it into an approximate area. We never store your street or house number or exact coordinates.

7.2 Your profile is never shown as an exact point. On the map and on your profile page, it appears as a soft circle that covers an approximate area. The area is based on a grid square of about 2 km for sitters and 3 km for families. Inside that square, your position is moved by a random offset that stays the same until you change your address. You can choose a larger area (5 km) or show only your town, and the circle grows to match.

7.3 Other members see distances only in bands (for example "under 20 km"), never in exact kilometres. The map cannot zoom to street level.

7.4 Do not reveal your exact address in your profile or in messages before you have decided to meet.

8. Messages, photos and safety tools

8.1 Who can send messages.

To prevent spam, the number of new conversations you can start per day is limited.

8.2 What you can send. Text and photos. Phone numbers, email addresses and messenger links cannot be sent (section 8.6). The app shows a typing indicator and read receipts. You can turn read receipts off. Then you also do not see whether others have read your messages.

8.3 Privacy of messages. Messages are encrypted in transit and when stored, but not end to end. No one at Carbetic reads your messages, and we do not analyse what they say. The only automatic check is a fixed pattern check when you send a message, which blocks phone numbers, email addresses and messenger links (section 8.6). It stores nothing. Our moderators see messages only when someone in the conversation reports messages from it or reports the other person (section 12.2), or when the law requires it. Every such access is logged.

8.4 The automatic photo check. Before a photo in the chat is delivered, Google Cloud Vision SafeSearch checks it automatically for sexual and violent content. A photo that fails is not delivered, and only the result of the check is kept with the message. We also remove location and other hidden data from every chat photo. We can switch chat photos off for everyone at any time, for example for safety reasons.

8.5 Conversations with sitters aged 16 or 17. Reports of sexual content or harassment in a conversation with a sitter aged 16 or 17 are treated as child-safety cases. The adult's account can be hidden while a moderator looks at it (section 13.4).

8.6 No contact details in the chat. For your safety, all chat stays in Carbetic, where reporting and blocking protect you. A message that contains a phone number, an email address, or a link or handle for a messenger or social network (for example WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook) cannot be sent. The app tells you while you type, and our servers block such messages too. Dates, times, prices, postcodes and ages are not affected. Nothing about a blocked message is stored, and no one is penalised for trying. Swap phone numbers in person when you meet. If you type something that looks like a bank account or a request for payment, or words that may be abusive or sexual, the app shows you a short tip. This tip appears only on your device and does not block the message.

8.7 Safety notice. Each new conversation shows a short safety notice above the message field. It is information about how to stay safe. When you close it, we record that you closed it and which version you saw.

8.8 How long messages are kept. Messages and chat photos are deleted 24 months after they were sent, or earlier when everyone in the conversation has left the network. If you delete your network account, the photos you sent are deleted at once. The text messages you sent stay with the other person until they expire, shown as from a "Former member", without your name or photo. Content that is needed as evidence in a safety case can be kept longer, as described in the privacy policy (section 13.14).

8.9 Notifications. Push notifications are optional. By default they show who wrote, not what they wrote. You can turn on message previews in the settings. The chat works without notifications.

9. Costs

9.1 The network is free. Everything in the network is free for sitters and families: the profile, the identity check, starting conversations, replying and reviews. No part of the network needs a Carbetic plan.

9.2 Carbetic plans. Carbetic plans are only for the carb counter. They are the same in both apps, with the same tiers, prices and offers, and a plan bought in either app unlocks the carb counter in both apps for the same account. The Carbetic Terms of Use, section "Plans and payments", apply to plans.

9.3 No payments between members through Carbetic. Carbetic never handles money between members and never asks for payment in the chat.

10. Rules for everyone, and zero tolerance

10.1 Community Guidelines. You must follow the Community Guidelines. In particular, you must not:

10.2 Zero tolerance. We do not tolerate objectionable content or abusive members. If you break these rules, we remove the content and can suspend or remove your account. For serious breaches, especially anything that puts a child at risk, we remove your account immediately and permanently and stop you from joining again.

10.3 Misuse of the service. You must not:

11. Reviews

11.1 Families can review sitters and sitters can review families once both have written at least one message to each other in the chat. Reviews are from people who messaged each other on Carbetic. We don't check whether they met.

11.2 You can write one review per person. It is published at once. If you write a new review about the same person, it replaces your earlier one.

11.3 Reviews and the average rating are shown on a profile only once it has 4 or more reviews. Below that, nothing is shown.

11.4 Reviews must be honest, about your own experience, and follow the Community Guidelines. Do not include names of children, health details or contact details. Do not offer or accept anything in return for a review, and do not review someone you have not dealt with.

11.5 Reviews are checked automatically with simple fixed rules, for example for contact details, links, banned words and length, never for whether they are positive or negative. There are no public replies. You can delete your own reviews at any time. Anyone can report a review.

11.6 If you delete your network account, reviews about you are deleted, and reviews you wrote stay without your name ("A family" or "A sitter" and the month it was written).

11.7 How reviews work explains the details.

12. Reporting and blocking

12.1 Report. You can report any profile, conversation, message, chat photo and review from inside the app. Anyone, including people who are not members, can also report by email to safety@carbetic.app. To help us act, a report should contain:

Reports about child sexual abuse can be made without giving your name.

12.2 What happens next. We confirm that we received your report. A person reviews it, normally within 24 hours, carefully and objectively. To understand what happened, we look at what you reported. If you report messages, we also see up to 20 messages before and after them. If you report a member you have chatted with, we see the last 20 messages of your conversation before your report. Photos in these messages are included. We tell you the outcome and whether we used automated tools to decide. We never tell the reported member who reported them.

12.3 Block. You can block any member from their profile or the conversation. Blocking works at once and in both directions: you no longer see each other, and neither of you can send messages. You can unblock in the settings.

12.4 Emergencies. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number first (112 in the EU; in Austria also 133 for the police and 144 for an ambulance), and then report in the app.

13. How we moderate

13.1 Principles. We do not approve profiles by hand. Automated checks run before content is public. People review reports. We act diligently, objectively and in proportion to the problem, and we explain our decisions.

13.2 Automated checks. Our automated checks in the network use no artificial intelligence. They are:

Other rules in the Community Guidelines, for example about which photos you may post or promises of medical tasks, are not checked automatically. We act on them when someone reports a breach. Automated checks can make mistakes in both directions. You can always ask a person to review an automated refusal ("Ask for a human review" or safety@carbetic.app).

13.3 Human review. Diego Szekely and one named backup moderator review reports and appeals. Our target is to decide on every report within 24 hours, every day of the week, and on appeals within 7 days.

13.4 Protective measures while we review. To protect children, we hide an account at once, until a person has reviewed the case:

Reports from visitors or from members without an ID check never hide an account on their own. They go to the top of our queue. A hidden account cannot send messages, and its profiles are not shown. We normally review these cases within 24 hours. If we find no breach, we undo everything.

13.5 What we can do. Depending on how serious the breach is, whether it was intentional, whether it happened before, and the risk to children, we can:

13.6 Strikes. A warning, a removal of content or a limit counts as 1 strike, a suspension as 2 strikes. Strikes count for 12 months. With 3 strikes, the account is suspended for 30 days, and the next breach leads to removal. For serious breaches we can skip these steps. Any breach that puts a child at risk can lead to immediate removal.

13.7 People who talked to a removed member. If we remove a member for child-safety reasons, threats, sexual misconduct or scams, we may tell the people they talked to that this member is no longer on T1D Babysitting after a safety review. We give no details. This helps them protect themselves.

13.8 Automatic limits. If an account sends an unusually high number of messages, its functions are limited automatically until the time window ends. The app explains this.

13.9 Statement of reasons. Whenever we restrict your content or account, we tell you, at the latest when the restriction starts:

We send this in the app. A note our moderators add is in German or English. We do not send statements for deceptive mass commercial content (spam).

13.10 Challenging a decision. You can ask us to review any decision by writing to safety@carbetic.app within 6 months and quoting the case reference. A person who knows the case reviews it again. You can also go to court at any time.

13.11 Misuse of reports. If someone often sends reports that turn out to be unfounded, their reports no longer trigger automatic measures. We review them like any other report.

13.12 Authorities and police. We follow orders from authorities and courts to act against illegal content or to provide information, as the law requires. If we suspect a crime that threatens someone's life or safety, we inform the police or the competent authorities (Digital Services Act, Art. 18). Where the law requires it, we disclose the data we hold, for example a verified name. We do not store street addresses.

13.13 Safety log. To investigate misuse such as stalking, we keep a log of searches, profile views and photo views in the network for 12 months. Only our moderators can see it, and only to look into a safety case. Each time they open it, that is recorded too. The privacy policy explains the details.

13.14 Deleting during a case. If you delete your network account while a safety case about you is open, the case continues. We keep the data we need to finish it, as the privacy policy explains.

14. Leaving, deleting and ending these terms

14.1 Your choices. In the settings of either app you can:

Deleting does not cancel a plan. Cancel it in the App Store or Google Play settings. carbetic.app/delete-account explains every step.

14.2 You can end these terms at any time by deleting your network account.

14.3 We can end these terms:

14.4 We can pause the network, or some of its functions, for safety, legal or technical reasons. We do this only for as long as needed and tell you in the app.

15. Medical tasks and emergencies

15.1 Carbetic gives no medical advice and no care or dosing instructions. We do not train, assess or certify anyone's care or medical skills. Device familiarity and T1D experience are what a sitter says about themselves.

15.2 Families decide, together with their child's diabetes team, what a sitter may and may not do. In Austria, medical tasks such as insulin injections or blood glucose tests can be passed on to a person who is not a health professional only by a doctor, after instruction and training (section 50a of the Austrian Physicians Act, ÄrzteG). Similar rules may apply in other countries. We recommend agreeing in writing what the sitter may do and when to call the parents or emergency services.

15.3 Sitters must not offer or promise medical tasks in their profile and must not do tasks they have not been instructed and allowed to do.

15.4 In an emergency, call your local emergency number (112 in the EU). In Austria you can also call 144 (ambulance) and 133 (police).

16. Liability

16.1 What we are liable for without limit. We are liable without limit for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, for death, injury or damage to health that we cause, and wherever mandatory law (for example product liability law) does not allow a limit.

16.2 Slight negligence. For other damage that we cause through slight negligence, we are not liable, unless the law does not allow this to be excluded.

16.3 Our role. The network brings people into contact. Members are responsible for what they write, do and agree. Carbetic is not responsible for the conduct of members, for whether self-declared information is true, or for what happens during babysitting arranged between members. This describes our role. It does not limit our liability for our own faults, for example if we handle a report carelessly or carry out an identity check carelessly.

16.4 Your statutory rights stay. If you are a consumer, your statutory warranty and other rights that cannot be waived remain unaffected, for example for a paid plan.

16.5 Availability. We work to keep the network available but cannot promise that it always works without interruption. Section 16.1 still applies.

17. Self-employed sitters (P2B rules)

If you offer babysitting as a self-employed person, Annex A applies in addition. It sets out your rights under the EU Platform-to-Business Regulation (EU) 2019/1150.

18. Changes, law, courts and language

18.1 Changes to these terms. We may change these terms for good reasons, for example new laws, new functions or safety needs. We tell you about changes in the app at least 30 days before they take effect (15 days for self-employed sitters, Annex A). Changes that affect your rights take effect for you only when you accept them in the app. Until then everything keeps working, but before you next save a profile or start the ID check, the app asks you to accept the new version. If you do not want to accept, you can leave the network or delete your network account at any time. Changes that are needed at once to protect members or to comply with the law can take effect sooner. We tell you why.

18.2 Applicable law. Austrian law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you usually live.

18.3 Courts. If you are a consumer, you can sue us in Austria or in the country where you live, and we can sue you only in the country where you live. For everyone else, the competent court in Austria for 2380 Perchtoldsdorf has jurisdiction.

18.4 Language. These terms exist in German and English.

18.5 If a clause is invalid, the rest of these terms stays valid.

18.6 Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for the network.

Annex A: Self-employed sitters (Platform-to-Business Regulation)

This annex applies if you offer babysitting as a self-employed person, as part of your business ("business user" under Regulation (EU) 2019/1150).

A.1 Changes. We tell you about changes to these terms at least 15 days before they take effect, unless a law requires a faster change, or a change is needed to deal with an unforeseen and immediate danger, such as fraud, malware, spam or a risk to children. You can end the contract before the change takes effect by deleting your network account.

A.2 Restriction and suspension. If we restrict or suspend your profile or account, we give you a statement of reasons (section 13.9) at the latest when it takes effect.

A.3 Ending the relationship. If we want to end our relationship with you entirely, we tell you at least 30 days in advance, with reasons. We can end it without notice if a law requires it, if you repeatedly break these terms, or for a serious breach, especially anything that puts a child at risk. You can ask us to explain and to review the decision (section 13.10).

A.4 Ranking. The main parameters that decide the order of results and their relative weight are described in How results are ordered. No one can pay for a better position, and we do not treat any member differently.

A.5 Data. You can see and download the data you provide (your profile, your photos, your messages and the reviews about you) by asking us at safety@carbetic.app. Carbetic uses network data only to run and protect the network, as described in the privacy policy. We do not give other business users access to your data, and we do not sell data.

A.6 No exclusivity. You are free to offer your services anywhere else, at any price.

A.7 Complaints and mediation. As a micro-enterprise, Carbetic is not required to run an internal complaint system or name mediators under the regulation. You can still raise any complaint at safety@carbetic.app, and a person will answer.
