What “ID verified” means
Version 1.0 · Last updated 21 October 2026 · Deutsch
Members of T1D Babysitting who passed the ID check carry the badge "ID verified" next to their name. You can publish a profile without the check. Everyone needs it to send messages. This page explains exactly what it means and what it does not mean.
What we checked
"ID verified" means that, on the date shown (for example "ID verified · since March 2026"):
- the person showed an identity document (passport, national ID card or residence permit) that our partner Didit found to be genuine and valid;
- a live selfie of the person matched the photo on that document;
- the person was old enough (16 for sitters, 18 for families), the document is not used by another Carbetic account, and the person is not someone we removed from the network.
That is all. After the check, the display name (first name and last initial) and, for sitters, the age on the profile come from that document. Before it, a profile shows the name the person typed, as first name and last initial, without the badge.
What we did not check
"ID verified" does not mean that we checked or confirm:
- a criminal record or background;
- qualifications, training or first-aid courses;
- experience with type 1 diabetes, or skills with pens, pumps, CGMs or glucagon;
- references or past babysitting jobs;
- health;
- anything else written in the profile, such as hobbies or languages;
- that the person is suitable, safe or trustworthy.
The profile photos are not compared with the ID. They are checked automatically, but only for sexual and violent content. Everyone who can see the profile can see them.
Everything else on a profile is what the person says about themselves. Fields such as devices are marked "Self-declared". It is still up to you to get to know someone, ask for references and decide. The Safety Center explains how.
Sitters aged 16 and 17
Sitters aged 16 or 17 also confirmed in the app that a parent or legal guardian agrees that they babysit. This is the sitter's own statement. We do not contact the parent or guardian and cannot check it. The age of these sitters is always shown on their profile.
How long it lasts
The check is done once. The badge stays, and we do not ask members to repeat the check later, for example when their document expires.
What we keep
We keep only the result, the date, the first name or names, the first letter of the last name, birth year and month, the country of the document, and coded fingerprints of the document that let us spot duplicate or removed accounts. The fingerprints are calculated with a secret key and cannot be turned back into your data. We never keep the document images or the selfie. Didit deletes them right after the check, or within 14 days if a person needs to review the check. Details are in the privacy policy.
