T1D Babysitting HelpUsing the network

Notifications, and how to turn them on

Which notifications T1D Babysitting sends, what they show, and how to turn them on if you missed the question.

When the app asks

If you haven't been asked before, the app asks right after your first profile is published. A short screen explains why. Tap Continue, and your phone asks its own question. Choose Allow.

The chat also works without notifications. You just won't hear about new messages until you open the app.

What notifications show

  • Who wrote and the beginning of the message. For a photo, only “Sent you a photo”. You can hide the text (below).
  • Reactions to your messages: for example “Lena M.” and “Reacted ❤️ to your message”. The message itself is never shown.
  • Messages from Carbetic arrive like any other message, with “Carbetic” as the sender.
  • Messages from one person are grouped together, so your lock screen stays tidy.
  • Other notifications are about your account and the network: a new review, your profile going live, an update on a report you made, or an important notice. We never send advertising this way.
  • On an iPhone, the app icon shows how many conversations have unread messages.

Message previews

By default, a notification shows the beginning of the message, also on your lock screen. If you'd rather see only who wrote, open the Profile tab, go to Chat and turn off Show message previews.

This applies to this phone only. On a tablet the family shares, you can turn previews off and keep them on your own phone. Your phone's own settings, for example showing previews only when it is unlocked, still apply. Photos are never shown in notifications.

New profiles near you, and reminders

  • When a new sitter (if you are a family) or a new family (if you are a sitter) publishes a profile within about 50 km of you, you get a notification. You get at most one a day, and never between 21:00 and 08:00 local time. It has its own switch in the notification settings.
  • About 26 hours after a message you haven't replied to, you get a reminder: “Lena M. is still waiting for your reply”. You get at most one reminder per conversation until you reply.

Turn notifications on later

When notifications are off, the Messages tab shows “Notifications are off. You might miss replies.” Tap Turn on to go straight to your phone's settings.

  • iPhone: Settings, Notifications, choose the app, then turn on Allow Notifications.
  • Android: Settings, Apps, choose the app, then Notifications. Make sure Messages is turned on too.

Choose T1D Babysitting, or Carbetic if you use the network inside the Carbetic app. In the Profile tab, under Chat, you can see whether notifications are on.

Both apps on one phone

If you have Carbetic and T1D Babysitting on the same phone, chat notifications arrive only once, in the T1D Babysitting app. Turn them on there.

Mute a conversation

Open the chat, tap the menu and choose Mute. You won't get notifications for that conversation, but the app still shows its unread messages. You can also swipe a chat in the Messages list to mute it. Choose Unmute to turn notifications back on.
