Your address and approximate location
We use your address once to place you on the map. Others only ever see an approximate area, never your street or house number.
In short
- Your street, house number and exact position are never stored.
- Others see a soft circle over an approximate area, never a point at your home.
- The area is based on a square of about 2 km for sitters and 3 km for families.
- Distances are shown in bands, such as “under 20 km”.
Enter your address
- In your profile setup, type your street and number, postcode, town and country. For your profile, we never use your phone's location.
- We check that the address exists. If we suggest a correction, tap “Use this address” or “Keep mine”.
- If we can't confirm the address, check it for typos. If it's right, you can continue.
- On “This is all anyone will see”, look at your area and choose how precise it should be.
T1D Babysitting is available worldwide, except in Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Russia.
What happens to your address
Google Address Validation tells us whether the address exists. We use only its answer.
OpenStreetMap turns the address into a map position once. If that doesn't work, we use the centre of your postcode.
We then find the grid square your home is in, about 2 km for sitters and 3 km for families. Inside it, your area is moved by a random offset. The offset stays the same until you change your address.
Your street, house number and exact position exist only for this moment. They are never stored.
What others see
- On the map, a soft, see-through circle over your approximate area, never a pin at your home. The circle shows a rough area, not where you live. Your home can even lie outside it.
- When many profiles are on the screen, the map first shows only small pins and groups. The circles appear once fewer profiles are visible.
- Your profile page shows the same circle, labelled “Approximate area”.
- Or only your town’s name, if you choose “Town only”.
- Distances only in bands: under 20 km, 20 to 35 km, 35 to 50 km, or 50 km and more.
- A map that can't zoom in to street level.
Choose how precise your area is
- Standard area: about 2 km for sitters, about 3 km for families.
- Larger area: about 5 km.
- Town only: no pin and no circle, just your town’s name.
You can change this any time in Profile, Visibility, “Location precision”, without typing your address again.
Some areas are made larger automatically, and the preview tells you why:
- if you have a family profile and a sitter profile: both use the larger family area;
- if someone else at your address has a family profile;
- in a village or a rural area;
- if we could only find your postcode.
Changing your address
You can change your address at any time in your profile. Each new address gives your area a new random offset.
What we store
Country, postcode, town, the grid square of your area, your published area, your precision choice and a coded version of your address (so we recognise it if you enter it again). When you delete your network account, all of this is deleted.
Please don't write your address in your profile. Share it in the chat only once you've decided to meet.
