Sitters aged 16 and 17
You can babysit on T1D Babysitting from 16. If you're under 18, you confirm with one tick that a parent or legal guardian agrees.
In short
- When you set up your sitter profile, you tick one box to confirm that your parent or guardian agrees.
- Your age is always shown on your profile.
- Everything else works as for every other sitter.
How it works
- Talk to your parent or legal guardian first. Show them this page and the Safety Center, so they know how the network works.
- In the network, switch to Babysit and start your sitter profile. Enter your first and last name and your birth month and year. Your ID check later confirms your age.
- Because you're 16 or 17, the app asks you to confirm: “My parent or guardian agrees that I babysit”. Tick the box only if they really do.
- Finish your profile and publish it. To chat with families, verify your ID.
We record that you ticked the box, and when. We can't check it ourselves, so we rely on you to be honest about it.
If you're under 16, the app tells you that you can't babysit on T1D Babysitting yet. You're welcome to come back once you're 16.
What is different until you turn 18
- Your age is always shown on your profile.
- You can have a sitter profile only. Family profiles are for adults.
Everything else is the same as for adult sitters, for example your rates and photos in the chat.
Laws that protect young people, for example on working hours and rest at night, differ from country to country. You and the families you babysit for follow the rules where you live.
These rules end automatically in the month after you turn 18, and you no longer need the box.
If your parent or guardian changes their mind
Your parent or guardian can change their mind at any time. If they no longer agree, stop babysitting through the network and pause your profile or leave the network. Pause your profile, leave or delete shows how.
Parents and guardians can also write to us at safety@carbetic.app, even without an account. If they tell us that they don't agree, we take your sitter profile offline and politely close your open conversations. This is not a penalty: there is no strike and no ban. Once you've sorted it out together, you tick the box again and can publish your profile again.
Good habits when you start
- Keep chatting in the app until you've met. Phone numbers can't be sent in the chat, so swap them in person.
- Tell a parent or guardian before your first meeting with a family, or bring them along.
- Never pay or accept money in advance.
- Only do diabetes tasks that the family and its diabetes team have shown you and allowed.
- Report or block anyone, at any time. We treat reports of sexual content or harassment in a chat with you as child-safety cases.
