What happens after a report
Every report is read by a person. Here is what happens from the moment you tap “Send report”.
In short
- You get a confirmation right away.
- A person reviews every report, normally within 24 hours, every day of the week.
- Some reports hide the reported account at once, to protect children.
- You hear the outcome. We never tell anyone who reported them.
1. You get a confirmation
Right after you send it, the app confirms that we received your report. You also find the confirmation under Profile, Notices. If you left “Also block” on, the person disappears for you at once.
2. A person reviews it
Diego Szekely, who runs Carbetic, or our named backup moderator reviews every report, normally within 24 hours, every day of the week.
We look at what you reported and, for messages, at a short part of the conversation around them, so we understand the context. If you report someone you have chatted with, we also look at the last 20 messages of your conversation before your report, including photos. Otherwise we do not read your messages.
3. Children are protected while we look
Some reports hide the reported account at once, before a person has looked at it:
- an ID-verified member reports that a child may be at risk, or threats or violence;
- an ID-verified member reports sexual content or harassment in a conversation with a sitter aged 16 or 17;
- 3 different ID-verified members report the same account within 7 days.
Reports from people who are not ID verified do not hide an account by themselves, but urgent ones go straight to the top of our list. If we find no breach, we undo everything.
4. What we can do
Depending on how serious it is, whether it was on purpose and whether it happened before, we can:
- give a warning;
- remove or hide content;
- limit functions for a set time, for example starting conversations or sending photos;
- suspend the account for a set time;
- remove the account permanently and stop the person from joining again.
Anything that puts a child at risk can lead to immediate removal. We report child sexual abuse material and suspected crimes against children to the police.
5. You hear the outcome
When we have decided, you get a notice in the app: either that we took action, or that we did not find a breach of our rules. To protect the other person's privacy, we do not share details of what we did.
If you disagree with the result, you can ask us to look again.
6. If you talked to someone we removed
If we remove a member for child-safety reasons, threats, sexual misconduct or scams, we may tell the people they talked to that the member is no longer in the network after a safety review. We give no details, but enough for them to protect themselves.
7. If you were reported
We never tell you who reported you. If we restrict your content or account, you receive a statement of reasons in the app. It says what we restricted and for how long, the facts, whether automated tools were involved, which rule it is based on and how you can challenge it.
If your account is hidden while we review a report, you can still read your messages, but you cannot send any, and your profiles are not shown. We normally decide within 24 hours.
Deleting your network account while a case is open does not end the case.
