T1D Babysitting HelpGetting started

How it works for families

From publishing your profile to your first chat and your first meeting: the steps for families, and what each one involves.

  1. Look around for free

    Tap the T1D Babysitting button at the top of the Carbetic home screen, or open the T1D Babysitting app, and choose Find a sitter. You can open the app and look around, but to see sitters near you, you publish your family profile. No ID check is needed for that, only to send messages.

    Results are grouped by distance and shuffled fairly within each group. Nobody can pay for a better position. Profiles you save with the heart belong to your account.

  2. Create your family profile

    When you're ready, you create your account with Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google or your email address. Families must be 18 or older. You enter your first and last name and your birth month and year. Your last name is stored privately. Your profile shows your first name and the first letter of your last name, for example “Lena M.”.

    Your profile describes what you need without revealing your children. You add:

    • how many children you have, how many of them have T1D, and their age groups;
    • the diabetes devices they use, such as a CGM or a pump (you say this yourself);
    • an hourly budget, if you want to show one;
    • optional photos, up to 6: the first one shows you, and the others can be family photos, also with your children.

    Children's names, birthdays and schools never appear on a profile. How many of your children have T1D and the devices they use are shown only if you give your explicit consent at the end of profile creation. You can publish without them. The number of children and their age groups are shown either way. Before your profile is saved, you tick “I agree” to accept the network terms and the community guidelines.

  3. Your area, not your address

    You type your address once. We turn it into an approximate area of about 3 km, shown as a soft circle on the map, and never store your street or house number. You can choose a larger area or show only your town. Your profile never uses your phone's location.

    Your family profile and its photos are visible to everyone who has published a profile. People without a published profile don't see them. Only add photos you're allowed to share. You can pause your profile at any time.

    Your profile is checked automatically and usually goes live within a minute. If something needs a change, the app tells you what. You don't need the ID check for this.

  4. Verify your ID

    To send messages, you verify your identity with our partner Didit: you photograph your ID document and take a live selfie. It is free, takes a few minutes and is needed only to send messages.

    Your profile then shows ID verified, with your first name and the first letter of your last name, taken from your ID.

  5. Start a conversation

    Starting a conversation and replying to a sitter are free. You do not need a plan for T1D Babysitting. A Carbetic plan is only for the 3D carb counter.

    In the chat you can send text and photos, and see when the other person is typing or has read your message. Photos are checked automatically before they are delivered. Phone numbers, email addresses and messenger links can't be sent, so swap numbers in person when you meet.

  6. Get to know each other

    Every new chat starts with a short safety note. Take your time:

    • get to know each other in the chat first;
    • meet first in a public place, or at home with you there the whole time;
    • check the ID in person and ask for references;
    • do a trial session before the sitter is alone with your child.

    The Safety Center has more tips, questions to ask and help with criminal-record certificates.

  7. Agree the details directly

    Times, tasks and pay are agreed between you and the sitter. Carbetic is not part of that agreement. In most countries the family is the employer.

    Decide together with your child's diabetes team what a sitter may do, and write it down in a care sheet. Go through everything together before the first time the sitter is alone with your child.

  8. Reviews and reporting

    Once you have both written at least one message in a chat, you can review each other. Reviews appear on a profile once it has 4 or more reviews. There are no public replies. Reviews are from people who messaged each other on Carbetic. We don't check whether they met.

    If anything feels wrong, report or block, from any screen. A person reviews every report, normally within 24 hours. If someone is in danger, call your local emergency number first.
